Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need another eye cream?

The Moisturiser is all you need and this delicate Face And Eye Complete Cream works hard to reverse a multitude of sins and restore skin to its optimum condition. Whether you’re suffering from a bad night’s sleep, jet lag, overexposure or an intense session at the gym, the natural ingredients in The Moisturiser are rich in nourishing, tightening and brightening properties to help with under-eye bags and to rescue thirsty skin cells.

Does The Moisturiser contain an SPF?

The Moisturiser contains the mineral UV blocker Zinc Oxide [particularly for it’s healing properties] so it will contain a very small amount of natural SPF but it hasn’t been formulated specifically for that purpose. When formulating The Moisturiser, we wanted it to be as multifunctional as possible and suitable for all people in all locations, all year round, day or night.

Is The Moisturiser fragrance-free?

The Moisturiser contains no artificial fragrance. You may detect a pleasant aroma though from a unique combination of (allergen-free) aromatic extracts. Although they smell great, we choose to include these essential oils particularly for their gentle skin regenerating properties.

GLOWING

I am a bit of a skin care addict and have tried a lot of different products. Nothing has hydrated my skin as well as this moisturiser. I have only been using it just over a week but my skin is just glowing and has helped with some smile lines I have on my mid cheeks. I thought 50ml would be small but a little goes a long way and it comes in a beautiful jar.

Active + Botanical Benefits
Actives

Peptides
Peptides are a patented extract from the seeds of pisum sativum L. [peas]. The pea undergoes an exclusive extraction/purification process to create the extract, which is then able to protect collagen and elastin against the deleterious effects of proteases activated during aging and stress. Other benefits include the protection and repair of epidermal proteins against damage induced by environmental aggressions [pollution, stress, UV] and also the strengthening of skin elasticity and improved, long-lasting hygroregulation.

Prebiotics [Inulin, Alpha-glucan Oligosaccharide]
A mixture of natural polysaccharides where the Inulin is extracted from chicory roots and the Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is obtained from sugar beet. This acts as a food for the desirable bacteria present on the skin – a food that the undesirable bacteria is unable to process. The prebiotics promote the friendly bacteria on the skin to recover and grow faster whilst the harmful ones are reduced, in turn restoring the natural bacterial balance to the skin. This unique combination helps to create a barrier against pollution and environmental damage and is useful for acne prone skin that is susceptible to infections.

Zinc Oxide
A broad spectrum blocker that protects skin from UVA, UVB and UVC. The mineral is prized for its ability to heal and to lower inflammation associated with rashes, allergies or irritation. People suffering from zinc deficiency typically experience slower wound-healing times. When zinc oxide is applied to the wound area, it provides the body with the extra zinc it needs to repair skin cells. It also can be used to treat pigmentary disorders [melasma] and in preventing skin ageing through improved collagen synthesis and the forming of new connective tissue.

Botanicals

Sacha Inchi
Our Sacha Inchi oil is cold-pressed from the star-shaped seeds of the South American fruit that contain more than 50% oil. Its fatty acid profile is a rarity amongst vegetable oils as it is very rich in Omega-3 [45-58%] and Omega-6 [30-40%] with some Omega-9 [8-12%]. It also has a high tocopherol content with over 190 mg per 100ml [gamma tocopherol: 119.70 mg/100g and delta tocopherol: 73.7 mg/100g], an amino acid content of approximately 33% and contains some vitamin A. Sacha Inchi oil is an excellent emollient, helping to reduce trans-epidermal water loss [TEWL] and is moisturising without being greasy, allowing for easy absorption. It can help to balance acne-prone skin, even skin tone and reduce the appearance of keratinisation [scarring], plus the high Omega-3 content helps to protect the skin against environmental damage.

Rosehip
Rosehip oil is clinically proven to help minimise the appearance of wrinkles, smooth skin and dramatically improve the skin’s moisture levels. Our Rosehip seed oil is extracted from the seeds of a native rose plant which grows wild in France. Rosehip oil is the only vegetable oil to contain natural tretinoin, the acid form of vitamin A also known as all-trans-retinoic acid [ATRA] in quantities of 125mcg/100g. Vitamin A helps to delay the effects of skin ageing, assists in cell regeneration, and promotes collagen and elastic levels. This results in firmer, smoother, and more youthful skin. Rosehip seed oil also contains a high amount of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. Vitamin E promotes healthy skin and provides antioxidant effects. Rosehip oil is rich in linolenic acids, which are important skin nutrients.

Hemp [Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil]
Our Hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the cannabis plant, harvested and cold-pressed in the UK. Clinically proven to alleviate dry skin, Hemp oil is the highest oil in essential fatty acids: 75-80% total EFAs. It is abundant in omega-3 oils and filled with essential nutrients. Hemp seed oil is nature’s richest source of polyunsaturated fatty acids [PUFAs]. PUFAs increase the moisture retention of the skin, keeping it soft and supple. Locking in this moisture strengthens the skin and hair, enhancing our natural defenses against pollution, sun, dry air and excessive use of chemicals. Hemp seed oil has a high content of Vitamin E compound, a natural antioxidant that traps excess free radicals which can injure, age degenerate and kill our cells and tissues. The oil itself can also compensate for the lower ceramide levels associated with ageing and metabolic slowdown; it is the lowering of these ceramide levels that contribute to the formation or wrinkles and overall skin ageing.

Patchouli
Derived from a large evergreen perennial belonging to the Labiatae family, Patchouli is a close relative of mint, lavender and sage that has been long used in traditional Asian medicine where it is used to address skin and hair problems, such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, dry chapped skin, dandruff and oily scalp. In aromatherapy, patchouli oil is thought to help relieve anxiety, stress and depression.

Pomegranate [CO2]
The CO2 oil extract is obtained from the seeds which are found inside the fruit in a white spongy tissue. The extract contains all CO2 soluble components of pomegranate seed, including zusammensetzung [more than 70% punicic acid which is a unique conjugated fatty acid], linoleic acid [5%], oleic acid [5%], palmitic acid [2,5%] and stearic acid [2.0%]. A report in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that Pomegranate oil stimulates keratinocytes, which are the major cells found in the epidermis [the outer layer of the skin]. Helping to regenerate these cells may actually help to reverse past damage and revive the skin to reveal a fresher and more youthful appearance. Pomegranate provides hydrating relief to the skin, helping with dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and sunburn. Just like the Pomegranate, the oil has a high antioxidant content, mainly due to it’s high content of ellagic acid. The high antioxidant and vitamin content helps to increase blood flow and circulation in the skin which in turn reduces flakiness and itchiness.

Centella
Also known as gotu kola, this adaptogenic perennial herb is well-documented in Chinese medicine as one of the miracle elixirs of life. Centella contains chemicals known as triterpenoids that stimulate the production of collagen in the skin and promote a toning and tightening effect on the skin when applied topically. Due to its ability to stimulate collagen production, Centella can improve the appearance of ageing skin affected by fine lines and wrinkles. Centella contains vitamins A, B, C, and D, together with a range of minerals, including zinc, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, sodium, silica, and selenium that all contribute to improved skin health.

The Sanitiser
Active + Botanical Benefits
Actives

Ethanol
Ethanol is a proven aid to preventing transmission of infectious agents and widely accepted as one of the most important infection control measures to prevent infectious disease transmission. The antimicrobial activity of ethanol can be attributed to its ability to denature and coagulate proteins. The microorganism’s cells are then lysed, and their cellular metabolism is disrupted. The activity is broad and immediate. Ethanol [the most common alcohol sanitising ingredient], appears to be the most effective against viruses.

D-Panthenol
D-Panthenol is the provitamin—a precursor, or substance that the body can convert into a specific vitamin—for B5. When panthenol is applied topically, it’s quickly converted into vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid. B5 binds to and holds water effectively, moisturising the skin and helping it maintain softness and elasticity. Panthenol has also been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect and to boost skin barrier function.

Botanicals

Vegetable Glyerin
Glycerin is hygroscopic — meaning it can draw moisture from the air around us and help keep that moisture in skin, thus minimising trans epidermal water loss [due to evaporation]. Research has shown that glycerin mimics what’s known as skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF), which is why it’s compatible with all skin types, of all ages. Replenishing skin’s NMF is important because it becomes depleted as we age, are subject to environmental exposure, and use irritating ingredients.

Sandalwood
Sandalwood is very mild but still has a powerful effect on the skin. Due to its antiseptic properties it prevents rashes, heals itching and inflammation, cools and soothes skin and moisturises and tones the skin with mild astringent action. In aromatherapy, inhaling the aroma of sandalwood oil or absorbing it through the skin is thought to transmit messages to parts of the brain involved in controlling emotions, known as the limbic system. These messages are believed to affect both an emotional and physiological response.

Carrot Seed
The benefits of carrot seed oil include antifungal and antibacterial qualities, due to the bioflavonoids it contains. Rich in vitamins A, C, B1, B2 and various essential fatty acids, carrot seed is incredibly skin-repairing to dry and damaged skin. It also contains a large amount of vitamin E, which is great for adding and retaining moisture in the skin.

Patchouli Oil
Patchouli oil, which contains several mono- and sesquiterpenoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids, is thought to possess significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. In fact, it is reputed to impart antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects, and is also known to protect the skin barrier function. Studies have found that patchouli oil exerts significant antibacterial activity against staphylococcus bacteria. Patchouli is commonly used in aromatherapy for its ability to calm depression. It encourages the release of serotonin and dopamine; two hormones which ease feelings of anger and anxiety.

Lavender
Along with the other benefits commonly found in botanical ingredients [anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial], lavender is unique in its proven ability to boost blood circulation. This enables more brightening oxygen and nutrients to reach the skin’s surface. It can also protect and promote the skin’s natural barrier, plus balance its pH levels. Aromatically, this oil, rich in esters and alcohols, is useful for when fighting depression as well as anxiety and stress, helping to relax the mind, proving to be interesting in its application at a time of increased tension.

Clove Bud
Clove owes its medicinal benefits to its antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiviral and stimulating properties, and is one of the richest sources of antioxidants. Clove oil contains a chemical called eugenol that acts as an antiseptic and antibacterial agent. With the help of these properties it can treat cuts and wounds and fight against fungal infections. Clove bud essential oil is used in aromatherapy to stimulate circulation and arousal of the mind and body allowing you to achieve mental clarity.

Bergamot
Thanks to its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, bergamot is a natural cleanser. It can help to tone the skin, soothe skin irritation, and heal cuts and scars. Bergamot is also rich in polyphenols that have strong antioxidant effects to help protect the skin from free radical damage. Aromatically, bergamot is one of the best oils to support the central nervous system — it’s known to be calming to the spirit.
